[Professional instrument Breitling] was founded in 1884 by Leon Breitling in Saint-Imier, Switzerland. Incorporating a chronograph mechanism that was only available in pocket watches at the time was a major proposition, and in 1915 his son Gaston Breitling created the world's first chronograph watch. The Chronomat was announced in 1942 and the Navitimer was announced in 1952, and has become recognized as a synonymous brand for pilot watches. In recent years, all models have acquired chronometers.
